Karen DeBolt
I was born and raised in Rapid City near the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. I have always enjoyed drawing and I did some painting with acrylics, but I was always curious about watercolor.
I took my first watercolor class taught by local artist, Joyce Johnson. I was hooked! I was also frustrated and challenged because it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be! I later joined the NPWS and I was warmly welcomed by the members and I have learned so much from all of them. Since then I have entered my paintings into their annual shows and have participated in the annual workshops.
I was invited to have an exhibit of 25 of my paintings, a few years ago, at the Carnegie Arts Center in the big town of Alliance, Nebraska where my Grandparents owned a farm. The show was small, but it was a very fun experience and taught me how much work it takes to put on an exhibit.
I paint mainly birds, animals, flowers, and have proudly sold several originals, and have had some Commisions. I have some 8×10 prints and notecards that have sold at some local businesses. I have also been asked to share some of my artwork in a garden book, written by the owner of a garden shop. The book is in the process of being completed and published.
I am married and have three grown children and two grandchildren. I enjoy (I really do!) working full time at Gold Diggers Dakota Gold Factory. I LOVE hiking and traveling when I can, taking photos of my adventures.
