Lynn Birk
Lynn is an artist in the Black Hills and has been a NPWS member for about 2 years. Her paintings include scenes of the surrounding area as well as other locations. Her work in watercolor offers her more spontaneity and is less cumbersome when painting on the spot, however most of her paintings are done from photographs. Lynn also enjoys photography and when traveling always has a camera by her side. People have always been a fascination for her and she calls the portrait a success when capturing the essence of the individual. Her past work includes watercolor and oil paintings as well as drawings, greeting cards, and occasional pieces of shark tooth jewelry. Many of her current watercolor paintings are a mixture of chalk, acrylics, and small beads attached to give the painting a hint of sparkle when the light hits it at a certain angle. Each painting starts with a drawing and a background wash. Many of her paintings are done using dry brush technique, but she will add wet on wet, float in color or use salt for certain effects.
